COURSE CONTENT

Following a review of the material covered in the previous year, this course will present the remaining elements of German grammar and will address certain aspects of syntax and idiomatic speech. Consequently, greater emphasis will be placed on oral and aural communication. Since language is an integral part of culture, the Thursday class will be devoted to various aspects of German culture.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Homework assignments, consisting of written work and/or memorization of vocabulary, must be completed by the next class meeting; assignments turned in late will not be accepted, except in the case of an excused absence. Active class participation, especially with regard to oral exercises, is essential for the attainment of language proficiency.

GRADING

Daily homework assignments, quizzes, dictation and active class participation will count for one-third of the semester grade.  Examinations, given in the weeks of 15 Sep., 13 Oct., 3 Nov., 12 Jan., 9 Feb., 23 Mar., will count for one-third of the semester grade. The final examination will count for one-third of the semester grade.  A passing grade on the final exam is required for passing the semester.  A failing grade on the final will be entered as the semester grade. The two semester grades will then be averaged for the course grade. All exams are cumulative.
