COURSE CONTENT;
This course will address various
epochs of Western culture in a chronological manner and will seek to identify
the critical standards by which aesthetics and works of art were judged during
these periods. Our focus will be upon
Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, the 20th Century and
contemporary art. We will address the
architecture, visual arts, theater, music, and the aesthetic philosophy
prevalent in each of these periods.
GRADING;
Three exams (on 5 February, 10 March
and 2 April) will count for a third of the grade. Material for theses exams will be taken from
the textbook and from class lectures. A
term paper on an assigned topic will count for a third of the grade. This paper will be due on 7 April, and it
will be presented orally before it is turned in. A late penalty of 10 points per class day
will be assessed. A comprehensive final
