LSMSA Online Academy
The Online Academy is for gifted/high potential 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students who wish to receive advanced high school credit. The Online Academy is a separate component of the Virtual School. Student admission to the program is selective and students must meet at least two of the eligibility requirements noted below.
Online Academy students may register for the following full year courses: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Spanish I, French I, Latin I, Earth Science, Civics, and Fine Arts Survey. If they have completed the appropriate first high school language course, they may enroll in Spanish II, French II, or Latin II. Before applying, view the Courses tab above to learn more about each course.
Also, speak with the counselor at your child's school. School districts have pupil progression procedures for middle school students taking high school credit courses. If the school counselor has any questions, please contact us.
Admissions Eligibility Requirements:
Students in grades 7, 8, or 9 who meet at least two of the criteria listed below may enroll in the Online Academy.
1. Participation in a school gifted program:
Students in grades 7, 8, and 9 who qualify for their school’s gifted programs are encouraged to register for the LSMSA Online Academy. Provide a Pupil Appraisal designation documentation from the school district.
2. Recommendation by a Gifted and Talented designated teacher:
Provide a recommendation from the school gifted teacher on school letterhead, dated and signed by the teacher.
3. Scores on National tests:
Provide a copy of the test scores. Students whose achievement test scores are:
a. EXPLORE - eligible in 7th - 8th: score achieved is equal to or better than 90th percentile
b. ACT and/or SAT - Eligible in 8th - 9th: score achieved is equal to or better than 90th percentile.
4. Recognized by Duke Tip or other noted program:
Provide a copy of the acceptance letter. We will take students recognized by:
a. Duke Tip
b. Northwestern State University's ADVANCE program
c. Governor's Program for Gifted and Talented Students
If you would like to enroll in the Online Academy, contact us by email or select the "Online Academy" option as you complete the registration form to enroll your student for a course with the Virtual School. We will request the required paperwork to complete admission to the Online Academy.
If you think your child may be an exception to the guidelines above, please contact us. 7th, 8th and 9th grade students who do not meet the admission requirements for the Online Academy may still enroll in online courses through the LSMSA Virtual School.
